A session is approximately 1 1/2 hours. On your initial session, there will be a detailed history, orthopedic evaluation, and treatment. You will be given a follow-up treatment plan based on your injury to determine next steps. On your first visit allow 1.5-2 hours. The number of appointments will be dependent on the extent of your injury, and the amount of time that has transpired from the onset of the issue(s). In some ways, long-term injuries are like an onion, and many layers may need to be peeled back to completely fix them. However, in some cases, such as an acute injury evaluation, one or a limited number of sessions with an exercise prescription and treatment may be all that is necessary.
Wear comfortable clothing. Jeans or heavy sweatshirts and hoodies can make it hard to palpate and treat. Wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing or shorts. Wear clothing that is appropriate for the area being treated. For example, if you are coming in for a knee issue, bring shorts or pants that can easily expose those areas.
You may experience soreness, stiffness, and/or flu-like symptoms after treatment. This is due to the release of metabolites/chemicals in the body that has been trapped for some time. It is your body’s way of adjusting to functioning in a new position and the release of dysfunctional tissue tension. It can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Always make sure to rehydrate yourself by drinking plenty of water
Do not participate in a heavy workout within 24 hours after treatment. Walking will help flush toxins and/or Epson salt baths can help detox as well.
